Buddypress is very good, especially you're running it along with a wordpress blog. Also check out Vanilla forums, which has a wordpress-like backend, a plugin system and a much simpler looking frontend. It can be used to create a Quora like site with the voting plugin

The FAQ on payment options for advertising was updated just 16 hours ago and still lists American Express: https://www.facebook.com/help/212763688755026 Yours is the second question here in the Help Forum I have seen about difficulties with the American Express option--has to be some sort of glitch....

Thats exactly where you start... Fire up procmon, get really good at filtering. But you have to be careful because sometimes you can filter out too much. Start by filtering to the process and see if it's doing anything while it's hung. Then look at what happened just before it hung. Then take a pee...
